Patmos greek island info

Patmos, 163 nautical miles from Piraeus, is officially known as the "Holy Island" by the Greek Government. Of all the Greek islands Patmos is the most sacred because when St. John the Divine was exiled there and living in a cave, he wrote the Book of Revelations. The island was under the control of its monastery for hundreds of years and received special status even from the Turk. Its history is much more complex than I will go into here.
